JATIMTIMES - Danau Lau Kawar merupakan salah satu wisata alam yang terkenal di Provinsi Sumatera Utara (Sumut) dengan beragam keindahannya. Selain itu, Danau Lau Kawar juga menyimpan cerita legenda mistis.
Terletak di bawah kaki Gunung Sinabung, Kecamatan Namanteran, Kabupaten Karo, Provinsi Sumut dan masih berada di Kawasan Ekosistem Leuser dengan luas 200 hektare, Danau Lau kawar menyajikan pemandangan yang indah di ketinggian 2.451 meter di atas permukaan laut dengan dibalut rindangnya pepohonan hijau dan asri.

Melihat air danau yang tenang, membuat wisatawan juga akan merasa tenang, tentram dan dapat merasakan kesejukan dari Danau Lau Kawar. Terlebih lagi, bagi wisatawan maupun pendaki yang ingin melepas penat dari hiruk pikuk keramaian kota, Danau Lau Kawar sangat cocok untuk menjadi salah satu tujuan wisata di Kabupaten Karo.
Danau Lau Kawar sendiri terapit oleh pegunungan dengan pepohonan hutan tropis. Ketika cuaca sedang cerah, wisatawan maupun pendaki dapat melihat pemandangan Brastagi dan Dataran Tinggi Karo. Kemudian, tidak jauh dari lokasi Danau Lau Kawar terdapat Desa Lingga yang merupakan lokasi Rumah Adat Karo.
Selain dikelilingi pepohonan rindang dan hijau, terbentuknya Danau Lau Kawar juga diselimuti cerita mistis dan legenda. Konon kisahnya, dahulu terdapat sebuah desa bernama Lau Kawar yang sangat subur.
Kemudian, desa ini tenggelam karena sumpah dan rasa sakit seorang nenek kepada cucu dan anaknya yang durhaka. Dalam kesedihan dan rasa hina itu, sang nenek berdoa memohon agar mengutuk anak dan cucunya. Lalu tidak lama berselang, terjadilah gempa hebat dan hujan deras hingga menenggelamkan seluruh penduduk desa.
Kisah lainnya menceritakan bahwa terbentuknya Danau Lau Kawar dari kesedihan seorang ibu melihat kedua anaknya yang berkelahi. Keduanya bernama Sinabung dan Sibayak.
Meskipun telah berteriak dan memisahkan keduanya agar perkelahian berhenti, keduanya masih terus berkelahi. Hal itu membuat sang ibu bersedih dan menyumpahi kedua anaknya hingga terjadi bencana besar dan menenggelamkan desa tersebut.

Lebih lanjut, di area Danau Lau Kawar terdapat beberapa fasilitas yang dapat diakses oleh wisatawan maupun pendaki. Mulai dari area parkir sepeda motor dan mobil yang luas, area seluas tiga hektare yang dapat digunakan untuk berkemah, toilet umum, warung makan, hingga gazebo.
Untuk bisa sampai di Danau Lau Kawar, wisatawan dapat menempuh jarak sekitar 70 kilometer dari pusat Kota Medan yang diperkirakan memakan waktu tiga jam. Akses jalan dapat dilalui kendaraan umum, namun para wisatawan disarankan untuk menggunakan kendaraan pribadi. Karena tidak ada kendaraan umum yang mengantarkan sampai ke lokasi Danau Lau Kawar.
Operasional Danau Lau Kawar terbuka setiap hari mulai Senin sampai Minggu selama 24 jam dengan harga tiket masuk sebesar Rp 5 ribu per orang. Termasuk untuk wisatawan maupun pendaki yang akan berkemah di area Danau Lau Kawar juga dikenakan retribusi yang telah ditentukan oleh pihak pengelola.
