Kepik emas atau Charidotella sexpunctata termasuk dalam golongan kumbang kura-kura (golden tortoise beetle).
Kepik ini berukuran mungil, sekitar 5-7 mm panjang.
Warnanya bervariasi dari coklat kemerahan dengan bintik-bintik hitam hingga emas cemerlang seperti cermin.
Sisi tepi elytranya melebar dan transparan. Elytra merupakan pasangan sayap yang berada di depan kumbang.
Pasangan sayap ini mengeras dan menebal yang dapat melindungi pasangan sayap di belakangnya dan juga melindungi bagian belakang tubuh kumbang.
Warna kepik emas akan berubah sesuai perkembangannya, selama kawin dan selama masa gangguan.
Pada musim kawin warnanya akan berubah, perubahan ini terjadi untuk menarik pasangannya.
Perubahan warna berikutnya terjadi ketiga kepik ini merasa terancam.
Fenomena perubahan warna pada kepik ini memang belum banyak yang melakukan riset.
Namun demikian, pada kepik Charidotella egregia perubahan warna terjadi ketika elytra terhidrasi.
Jika tedehidrasi, warna dari Charidotella egregia berubah dari emas mengkilap menjadi coklat kemerahan. Yang unik, perubahan warna ini reversible!
Kepik emas mempunyai parasitoid. Parasitoid ialah organisme yang menghabiskan sebagian besar riwayat hidupnya dengan bergantung pada organisme inang tunggal.

Jadi parasitoid ini nyaris dalam sepanjang hidupnya akan bergantung pada inang.
Kondisi ini kemudian akhirnya akan membunuh inang. Istilah kerennya dalam hal ini adalah pengendali hayati.
Parasitoid kepik emas beragam jenisnya, antara lain tawon eulophid Tetrastichus cassidus dan lalat tachinid Eucelatoriopsis dimmocki.
Ada juga yang sifatnya predator terhadap kepik emas ini, terutama pada fase larva.
yaitu kumbang kepik, kutu damselfly, serangga perisai dan serangga epik emas pembunuh.
Kepik emas dipercaya berasal dari Amerika yang kemudian menyebar ke seluruh dunia. Persebarannya di Indonesia terutama di daerah di sekitar sungai atau danau serta di pinggir-pinggir hutan yang berbatasan dengan persawahan.
Di wilayah Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan Konservasi (KPHK) Pati Barat, Kepik emas dapat ditemukan di Cagar Alam Keling II/III dan Cagar Alam Gunung Celering.
Kedua cagar alam tersebut terletak di kabupaten Jepara.
Kepik emas ini bisa diperjulbelikan lho. Mungkin karena warnanya yang ‘blink-blink’ kepik emas ini laku dijual dan datangkan cuan.
Beberapa market place lokal maupun international memajangkan dagangan ini.
Konon per kilogramnya dihargai hingga 20 juta rupiah. Sementara di Ebay harganya mencapai Rp 100 ribu per ekornya.
Selain dibudidayakan untuk dijual, Kepik Emas ini bisa dibuat sebagai perhiasan maupun gantungan kunci dengan cara diawetkan dan dicelupkan ke dalam resin.
