JATIMTIMES – Saat sebagian besar warga masih terlelap, Marsuni (50) sudah melangkah pelan menuju kebun melati di Gang Mawar Melati, Desa Talkandang, Kecamatan Situbondo. Embun pagi masih menggantung di ujung daun, sementara aroma khas bunga melati menyeruak lembut di udara.
Dengan keranjang kecil di tangan, Marsuni mulai memetik satu per satu kuntum melati yang masih segar. Jemarinya bergerak lincah dan hati-hati. Bagi orang awam, pekerjaan itu tampak sederhana. Namun bagi Marsuni, setiap kuntum melati adalah harapan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan keluarganya.

"Kalau hari biasa saya memetik dari jam lima pagi sampai sekitar jam 12 siang. Kalau pesanan sedang ramai, bisa sampai sore," ujar Marsuni saat ditemui di kebun melati, Selasa (19/5/2026).
Pekerjaan memetik melati bukan sekadar soal kecepatan. Ada ketelitian yang harus dijaga. Kuntum bunga harus dipetik ketika masih segar, belum mekar sempurna, agar tetap harum dan berkualitas saat sampai ke tangan pembeli.
Untuk setiap 1.000 kuntum bunga yang berhasil dipetik, para pekerja mendapat upah Rp50 ribu. Besaran itu cukup berarti bagi ibu-ibu rumah tangga seperti Marsuni. Dalam sehari, hasil memetik melati mampu menjadi tambahan pendapatan yang menopang ekonomi keluarga.
"Kalau sudah mendekati lebaran atau musim nikah, pesanan bisa berlipat-lipat, omzet bisa jutaan rupiah. Kami kadang sampai sore memetik bunga supaya semua pesanan terpenuhi," tuturnya.
Di usia yang tak lagi muda, semangat serupa juga ditunjukkan Idah (70). Setiap pagi, perempuan sepuh itu masih setia menyusuri kebun melati. Baginya, pekerjaan ini bukan hanya rutinitas, tetapi juga sumber kebanggaan karena masih bisa membantu kebutuhan rumah tangga.
"Saya sudah lama memetik melati. Alhamdulillah, hasilnya bisa untuk tambahan kebutuhan sehari-hari. Kalau musim ramai, penghasilannya lumayan lebih banyak," kata Idah sambil tersenyum.
Gang Mawar Melati di Talkandang memang memiliki kisah tersendiri. Di gang sederhana itu, puluhan warga menanam melati dan mawar di pekarangan rumah maupun lahan yang dikelola secara turun-temurun. Dari sanalah lahir sumber penghidupan yang terus mengalir, menyatu dengan tradisi dan kerja keras masyarakat.

Bunga-bunga dari Talkandang tak hanya dijual di pasar lokal. Melati ini digunakan untuk berbagai keperluan, mulai dari rangkaian pernikahan, ziarah makam, hingga kebutuhan hari-hari besar keagamaan. Permintaannya relatif stabil sepanjang tahun, meski meningkat tajam menjelang Idulfitri, Iduladha, dan musim hajatan.
Pada masa-masa ramai itu, kebun melati menjadi lebih sibuk dari biasanya. Para pemetik bekerja lebih lama, sementara petani berlomba memastikan tanaman mereka menghasilkan bunga terbaik. Aroma melati yang semerbak seakan menjadi pertanda bahwa rezeki sedang datang.
Budidaya bunga melati di Talkandang membuktikan bahwa usaha kecil berbasis pertanian masih memiliki nilai ekonomi yang menjanjikan. Dari bunga-bunga putih mungil yang dipetik sejak fajar, tersimpan cerita tentang ketekunan, kesabaran, dan perjuangan warga dalam menjaga dapur tetap mengepul.
Di tangan Marsuni, Idah, dan puluhan perempuan lainnya, melati bukan sekadar bunga yang harum. Ia adalah sumber penghidupan, harapan, dan bukti bahwa keindahan alam dapat menjadi jalan untuk menyambung kehidupan.
