Komentar serupa juga disampaikan sejumlah warganet yang menilai keberhasilan bisnis online tidak semata-mata ditentukan oleh kepemilikan ponsel dan akses internet.
"Yang sering kelewat itu bukan modal kuota dan HPnya, tapi modal produk, stok, iklan, waktu, ilmu, & risiko yang ditanggung. Kalau emang semudah modal WiFi gratis langsung omzet miliaran, pasti semua satpam, office boy & tetangga komplek udah jd sultan e-commerce. Yang kelihatan cuma layar HPnya, yang nggak kelihatan biasanya bertahun-tahun belajar jualan dan bakar modal di belakang layar. Jadi bukan modal HP yg bikin kaya, tapi cara memanfaatkan HP itu buat menghasilkan nilai," tulis akun lain.
Warganet lainnya juga mengingatkan bahwa bisnis digital tetap memiliki biaya yang harus ditanggung pelaku usaha.
"Yg perlu diluruskan sebenarnya bkn soal 'seller e-commerce kena pajak atau tidak'. Setiap penghasilan pd prinsipnya memang punya konsekuensi pajak. Yg agak berbahaya adalah framing seolah-olah omzet besar di e-commerce hanya bermodal kuota internet dan gawai. Dlm praktek, seller e-commerce tetap pny real business cost: modal barang, HPP, biaya platform, iklan, diskon, voucher, refund, ongkir, packaging, retur, gudang, tim admin, payment fee, dan cash flow yg harus diputar," tulis akun lainnya.
Terlepas dari polemik tersebut, pemerintah sebenarnya telah menetapkan kriteria tertentu bagi pelaku usaha online yang masuk kategori wajib membayar Pajak Penghasilan (PPh) Final UMKM.

Berdasarkan ketentuan perpajakan yang berlaku hingga Juni 2026, terdapat dua syarat utama yang menjadi perhatian.
1. Memiliki omzet bruto sampai Rp 4,8 miliar per tahun
Pelaku usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah yang memiliki peredaran bruto atau omzet tidak lebih dari Rp 4,8 miliar dalam satu tahun pajak dapat dikenakan skema PPh Final UMKM sesuai ketentuan yang berlaku.
Skema ini mencakup berbagai jenis usaha, termasuk penjual yang beroperasi melalui marketplace maupun media sosial.
2. Sudah melewati batas omzet tidak kena pajak Rp 500 juta per tahun
Pemerintah memberikan fasilitas batas omzet tidak kena pajak sebesar Rp 500 juta per tahun bagi wajib pajak orang pribadi pelaku UMKM.
Artinya, omzet hingga Rp 500 juta dalam satu tahun tidak dikenai PPh Final. Pajak baru dihitung atas omzet yang melebihi ambang batas tersebut.
Sebagai contoh, apabila seorang seller marketplace memiliki omzet Rp 800 juta setahun, maka dasar pengenaan pajaknya bukan seluruh omzet, melainkan Rp 300 juta setelah dikurangi fasilitas omzet bebas pajak Rp 500 juta.
