JATIMTIMES - Setiap orang tua tentu ingin melihat buah hatinya tumbuh menjadi pribadi yang mandiri, percaya diri, dan mampu menghadapi berbagai tantangan hidup. Namun, sikap mandiri tidak muncul begitu saja. Karakter tersebut perlu dibentuk melalui kebiasaan yang diterapkan sejak usia dini.

Mendidik anak agar mandiri bukan berarti membiarkan mereka melakukan segala sesuatu sendiri tanpa pendampingan. Sebaliknya, orang tua tetap berperan sebagai pembimbing yang memberikan kesempatan kepada anak untuk belajar, mengambil keputusan, hingga bertanggung jawab atas pilihan yang dibuat.

Dengan pola asuh yang tepat, anak akan terbiasa menyelesaikan berbagai hal sesuai kemampuannya. Kebiasaan ini juga dapat menjadi bekal penting saat mereka memasuki lingkungan sekolah maupun kehidupan bermasyarakat.

Dirangkum dari berbagai sumber, berikut lima cara yang dapat dilakukan orang tua untuk membantu anak tumbuh menjadi pribadi yang lebih mandiri.

1. Libatkan Anak dalam Pekerjaan Rumah

Melibatkan anak dalam aktivitas rumah tangga menjadi salah satu cara sederhana untuk melatih kemandirian. Selain mengajarkan keterampilan dasar, kebiasaan ini juga membantu anak memahami pentingnya tanggung jawab dan kerja sama dalam keluarga.

Anak akan belajar bahwa setiap anggota keluarga memiliki peran masing-masing. Rasa memiliki terhadap rumah pun akan tumbuh karena mereka ikut berkontribusi dalam menyelesaikan pekerjaan sehari-hari.

Orang tua dapat memberikan tugas sesuai usia, seperti merapikan tempat tidur, mengelap meja, menyusun meja makan, menyapu lantai, atau merapikan mainan setelah digunakan.

2. Berikan Kesempatan Anak Mengambil Pilihan

Memberi ruang kepada anak untuk menentukan pilihan dapat melatih kemampuan berpikir dan mengambil keputusan secara mandiri. Anak juga akan merasa lebih percaya diri karena pendapatnya dihargai.

Misalnya, orang tua dapat memberikan pilihan mengenai pakaian yang akan dikenakan, camilan sehat yang ingin dikonsumsi, atau kegiatan yang akan dilakukan setelah pulang sekolah.

Meski demikian, orang tua tetap perlu menetapkan batasan sehingga pilihan yang diberikan tetap aman dan sesuai dengan usia anak.

3. Ajarkan Cara Mengelola Uang Saku

Memberikan uang saku tidak hanya bertujuan memenuhi kebutuhan anak, tetapi juga menjadi media belajar mengelola keuangan sejak dini. Dari kebiasaan ini, anak dapat memahami pentingnya menyusun anggaran, menabung, hingga mengendalikan keinginan.

Anak juga akan belajar bahwa memperoleh sesuatu memerlukan usaha, kesabaran, dan kedisiplinan.

Namun, orang tua sebaiknya tidak menjadikan uang saku sebagai imbalan atas pekerjaan rumah. Jika setiap tugas selalu dihargai dengan uang, anak bisa berpikir bahwa membantu keluarga hanya dilakukan apabila mendapat bayaran.

Berikan uang saku secukupnya sesuai kebutuhan dan kemampuan keluarga agar anak belajar menggunakan uang secara bijak.

4. Beri Apresiasi pada Usaha yang Dilakukan Anak

Dalam proses belajar, hasil bukanlah satu-satunya hal yang perlu dihargai. Orang tua juga perlu memberikan apresiasi terhadap usaha yang telah dilakukan anak.

Sebagai contoh, ketika anak sudah belajar dengan sungguh-sungguh tetapi nilai ujiannya belum maksimal, berikan dukungan dan pujian atas kerja kerasnya. Cara ini dapat meningkatkan rasa percaya diri sekaligus mendorong anak untuk terus mencoba tanpa takut gagal.

Dengan demikian, anak akan lebih berani menghadapi tantangan dan tidak mudah menyerah ketika menemui kesulitan.

5. Bangun Ketangguhan sejak Usia Dini

Selain mandiri, anak juga perlu memiliki mental yang tangguh. Orang tua dapat menanamkan pemahaman bahwa melakukan kesalahan merupakan bagian dari proses belajar.

Berikan kesempatan kepada anak untuk mencari solusi saat menghadapi masalah dan ajak mereka berdiskusi ketika mengalami kegagalan. Pendekatan seperti ini akan membantu anak belajar bertanggung jawab sekaligus mengembangkan kemampuan menyelesaikan persoalan.

Meski melihat anak gagal bukan hal yang mudah bagi orang tua, pengalaman tersebut justru menjadi bekal berharga untuk membentuk karakter yang lebih kuat, percaya diri, dan siap menghadapi tantangan di masa mendatang.

Menanamkan sikap mandiri memang membutuhkan waktu dan konsistensi. Namun, dengan memberikan kepercayaan, kesempatan untuk belajar, serta pendampingan yang tepat, anak akan tumbuh menjadi pribadi yang lebih bertanggung jawab dan siap menghadapi berbagai fase kehidupan.
