JATIMTIMES - Google Doodle hari ini, Jumat (20/10/2023), merayakan papeda atau bubur sagu. Papeda dikenal sebagai bubur sagu lezat yang menjadi makanan pokok di Indonesia bagian Timur dan telah populer di seluruh dunia. 

Pada 20 Oktober 2015, papeda secara terbuka dinyatakan sebagai warisan budaya takbenda Indonesia. Oleh karenanya, Google Doodle mencoba menampilkan tema papeda.

Dalam tampilan Google Doodle, tampak tulisan Google berubah menjadi tampilan layaknya sajian papeda. Di ujung terdapat huruf "G", kemudian "o" diubah menjadi mangkuk berisikan ikan.  Huruf "o" selanjutnya diisi dengan tampilan bubur sagu lengkap dengan dua garpu di atasnya. Selanjutnya huruf "g", lalu "l" diubah seperti sendok dan "e" diubah seperti piring. 

Dalam keterangan Google Doodle, ada jutaan pohon sagu menutupi pulau-pulau di Indonesia. Dan setiap tahun penduduk setempat memanennya dengan tujuan untuk diekspor ke negara lain atau untuk dimasak. Salah satunya untuk bahan membuat papeda.  

Satu pohon sagu bisa menghasilkan hampir 150 hingga 300 kilogram pati sagu. Kata Google Doodle, tanaman ini menyediakan berbagai nutrisi yang seimbang, termasuk protein, karbohidrat, kalsium, dan zat besi.  

Namun sagu juga memiliki arti yang lebih besar bagi masyarakat di seluruh Indonesia. Sebab, masyakat sekitar telah terbantu untuk mempertahankan sagu selama berabad-abad.  

Bahkan, sagu masih digunakan dalam berbagai ritual, seperti upacara di Papua dan Maluku. Misalnya, Watani Kame (upacara yang menandai berakhirnya siklus kematian seseorang).

Lalu bagaimana cara membuat papeda? Setelah bahan mirip tepung dikeluarkan dari pohonnya, campurkan dengan air mendidih dan aduk hingga mengental. Taburkan kunyit, kemangi, serai, daun salam untuk menambah rasa, dan tambahkan ikan sebagai lauk. 

"Dengan menyantap papeda, Anda menyantap salah satu makanan bergizi dan lezat paling terkenal di Indonesia," pungkas keterangan Google Doodle. 

Merangkum dari berbagai sumber, papeda merupakan makanan khas yang dikenal luas dalam tradisi masyarakat adat Sentani dan Abrab di Danau Sentani, Arso, serta Manokwari. Makanan ini kerap muncul pada saat acara penting yang berlangsung di wilayah-wilayah tersebut.

Bagi masyarakat adat Papua, sagu sangat dihormati karena masyarakat setempat percaya mengenai mitologi sagu yang terkait dengan kisah penjelmaan manusia. Jadi, sagu lebih dari sekadar makanan lezat.

Oleh warga Raja Ampat, sagu juga dianggap sebagai sesuatu yang istimewa. Maka dari itu, saat memanen sagu, masyarakat setempat menggelar upacara khusus sebagai rasa syukur dan penghormatan akan hasil panen (sagu) yang melimpah.

Papeda juga sering diolah menjadi bubur dan dihidangkan saat upacara adat Papua, yakni Watani Kame. Upacara tersebut dilakukan sebagai tanda berakhirnya siklus kematian seseorang. Setelah upacara selesai, bubur papeda dibagikan kepada masyarakat yang membantu jalannya upacara.

Sementara di Pulau Seram, Maluku, masyarakat Suku Nuaulu menjadikan papeda sebagai makanan yang sakral dalam ritual perayaan masa pubertas seorang perempuan. Menurut kepercayaan Suku Nuaulu dan Huaulu, wanita yang sedang menstruasi dilarang memasak papeda karena menurut mereka proses merebus sagu menjadi papeda dianggap tabu.

Papeda adalah makanan khas wilayah timur Indonesia yang unik. Ciri khas makanan yang satu ini terletak dari tekstur dan warnanya yang menyerupai lem, yakni kenyal, berwarna putih, dan lengket.

Bagi masyarakat Papua, Maluku, dan sejumlah daerah di Sulawesi, papeda sudah dianggap sebagai pengganti nasi. Maka dari itu, warga setempat mengonsumsi papeda dengan makanan pendamping lainnya seperti ikan kuah kuning dan tumis sayur kangkung.

Ciri khas lain dari makanan yang satu ini adalah namanya. Sebab  papeda memiliki arti tersendiri, yakni "Papua Penuh Damai". Arti ini merujuk pada semua keberagaman budaya dapat menjadi satu di Papua, sehingga tidak ada lagi konflik antarsuku adat. Bisa dibilang, papeda menjadi simbol makna pemersatu masyarakat Papua.

Cara menyantap papeda juga unik. Kamu harus menyiapkan sepasang sumpit atau dua garpu khusus, setelah itu ambil papeda dengan cara menggulung-gulung hingga papeda melingkari sumpit atau garpu, lalu diletakkan di piring dan siram dengan kuah kuning. Beda dengan nasi yang harus dikunyah, kalau papeda dapat langsung diseruput dan ditelan.
