Dokter sekaligus skincare expert, Yessica Tania yang akrab disapa dokter Zie, mengungkapkan bahwa kesalahan penggunaan cleansing balm khususnya masih sangat umum terjadi. Diperkirakan sebagian besar masyarakat belum memahami cara pemakaian yang benar.

“Kalau dilihat, mungkin sekitar 70 persen orang Indonesia masih salah dalam menggunakan cleansing balm. Padahal ini adalah step paling basic yang justru sangat menentukan kondisi kulit,” kata dokter Zie.
Menurut dokter Zie, cleansing balm merupakan bagian dari double cleansing yang berfungsi untuk mengangkat kotoran berbasis minyak seperti makeup, sunscreen tahan air, serta sebum berlebih. Prinsip kerjanya sederhana, yakni oil attracts oil atau minyak akan melarutkan minyak lainnya yang menempel di kulit.
Sayangnya, praktik di lapangan sering tidak sesuai dengan konsep tersebut. Salah satu kesalahan paling umum adalah penggunaan cleansing balm pada wajah yang sudah dibasahi.
“Yang benar itu cleansing balm dipakai di kulit yang kering, bukan yang sudah kena air karena kita ingin oil-nya bekerja maksimal menarik kotoran yang juga berbasis oil,” imbuh dokter Zie.
Kesalahan lain yang kerap dilakukan adalah penggunaan kapas untuk membersihkan wajah setelah memakai cleansing balm. Padahal, langkah ini dinilai tidak hanya kurang efektif, tetapi juga berpotensi menyebabkan iritasi jika dilakukan terus-menerus.
Lebih lanjut, dokter Zie menekankan pentingnya proses emulsifikasi, yakni tahap ketika cleansing balm dicampur dengan sedikit air hingga berubah tekstur menjadi cairan putih seperti susu.
“Cleansing balm itu memang diformulasikan untuk diemulsifikasi. Jadi, setelah dipijat di wajah, tambahkan sedikit air, gosok lagi sampai berubah jadi putih susu, baru dibilas. Ini yang sering dilewatkan,” terang dokter Zie.

Jika proses emulsifikasi tidak dilakukan dengan benar, sisa minyak dan kotoran bisa tertinggal di kulit. Dalam jangka panjang, kondisi ini dapat memicu penumpukan residu yang berujung pada berbagai masalah kulit, seperti pori-pori tersumbat, komedo, hingga jerawat.
Ia juga mengimbau bahwa kesalahan kecil yang dilakukan secara berulang setiap hari dapat memberikan dampak besar terhadap kesehatan kulit. “Kalau tiap hari ada residu yang tidak terangkat sempurna, walaupun kecil, lama-lama akan menumpuk. Nah, itu yang akhirnya bisa jadi masalah di kulit,” tambah dokter Zie.
Fenomena ini kerap terjadi di tengah maraknya penggunaan produk skincare berlapis. Banyak orang rela mengeluarkan biaya lebih untuk membeli berbagai produk perawatan, namun justru mengabaikan tahap dasar yang menjadi fondasi utama.
“Banyak yang fokus evaluasi serum, toner, sampai treatment, padahal basic-nya belum tentu benar. Kalau fondasinya saja belum beres, wajar kalau kulit terasa susah ‘tenang’ meskipun produknya sudah banyak,” ucap dokter Zie.
Ia pun mengimbau masyarakat untuk kembali memahami konsep dasar perawatan kulit, dimulai dari proses pembersihan yang tepat. Menurut dia, kulit yang bersih secara optimal akan lebih siap menerima manfaat dari produk skincare berikutnya.
