JATIMTIMES DPRD Provinsi Jawa Timur (Jatim), dr. Benjamin Kristianto , mengingatkan masyarakat untuk memperketat kewaspadaan terhadap ancaman hantavirus . Penyakit yang menyebar melalui tikus ini kembali menjadi perbincangan publik.
Terdapat risiko komplikasinya yang fatal, mulai dari gangguan pernapasan akut hingga kerusakan ginjal permanen yang memerlukan tindakan cuci darah. Benjamin menegaskan bahwa meskipun hantavirus belakangan ini ramai diperbincangkan, virus ini sebenarnya bukan jenis baru di dunia medis.

"Jadi kita dengar beberapa hari ini ada berita tentang virus. Jadi virus itu sebenarnya bukan virus yang baru terjadi, tapi virus itu memang sudah ada sejak dulu," ujar dr. Benjamin di Gedung DPRD Jatim, Rabu (13/5/2026).
Politisi yang juga praktisi medis ini menjelaskan bahwa penularan hantavirus terjadi melalui media tikus. Infeksi dapat berpindah ke manusia apabila makanan yang dikonsumsi telah terkontaminasi oleh urine, air liur, atau bekas gigitan hewan pengerat tersebut.
"Hanya sebagian kecil misalnya dari roti dia gigit sedikit saja, nah ludahnya dan kencingnya itu yang menular masuk ke makanan lalu kita makan terjadilah kita penularan hantavirus," jelasnya.
Lebih lanjut, dr. Benjamin memaparkan bahwa virus ini menyerang dua organ vital dengan dampak yang berbeda. Manifestasi pada paru-paru dikenal sebagai Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) yang memiliki gejala sesak napas mirip Covid-19. Sementara itu, varian yang menyerang ginjal disebut Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS).
"Nah dia menyerang ada seperti demam berdarah berarti dia ada perdarahan hemorrhagic panas dengan perdarahan tapi disertai dengan gangguan pada ginjalnya. Nah, itulah yang harus dihati-hati," paparnya.
Bahaya paling nyata muncul apabila infeksi telah merusak fungsi ginjal secara masif. "Berarti kan pengobatannya tidak sebatas virusnya, tetapi hemodialisa, cuci darah, dan berbagai macam gitu. Karena ginjalnya sudah terlanjur rusak," tegasnya.

Sebagai langkah preventif, Komisi E mendesak masyarakat serta pelaku usaha kuliner—seperti pemilik kafe dan restoran—untuk lebih disiplin dalam mengelola sisa makanan. Lingkungan yang kotor disebut menjadi magnet utama datangnya tikus pembawa virus.
"Jadi pencegahannya teman-benar harus berusaha menjaga kebersihan di rumahnya masing-masing. Juga harus mencegah juga yang punya kuliner, yang punya bisnis kuliner, restoran, kafe, yang berhubungan makanan," tuturnya.
Legislator Dapil Sidoarjo ini menutup dengan pesan penting mengenai pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga yang benar untuk memutus rantai keberadaan tikus.
"Kalau semuanya bersih setelah makan dibuang sampah, sampahnya itu diikat, ditaruh di luar rumah, dibuang di tong sampah. Ndak mungkin kan ada tikus kalau kita bisa jaga kebersihan tadi," pungkasnya.
