JATIMTIMES - Mendengarkan musik favorit saat berolahraga ternyata bukan sekadar membuat suasana latihan lebih menyenangkan. Studi terbaru menunjukkan, musik justru bisa membantu seseorang bertahan lebih lama saat berolahraga dan meningkatkan toleransi tubuh terhadap rasa lelah.

Penelitian yang dipublikasikan dalam jurnal Psychology of Sport and Exercise menemukan bahwa olahraga sambil mendengarkan musik pilihan sendiri mampu meningkatkan time to exhaustion atau waktu seseorang bertahan hingga benar-benar kelelahan sampai sekitar 20 persen.

Dalam studi tersebut, sebanyak 29 orang dewasa diminta menjalani latihan bersepeda intensitas tinggi dalam dua kondisi berbeda, yakni tanpa musik dan dengan musik favorit mereka sendiri. Hasilnya, peserta yang berolahraga sambil mendengarkan musik mampu bertahan rata-rata hampir enam menit lebih lama dibanding saat berolahraga tanpa musik.

Menariknya, peningkatan performa itu tidak disertai perubahan signifikan pada denyut jantung, kadar laktat, maupun konsumsi oksigen tubuh. Peneliti menduga musik bekerja lebih banyak pada aspek psikologis dibanding fisik.

Ilmuwan pangan, Felix Zulhendri, mengatakan musik dapat membantu otak mengalihkan fokus dari rasa tidak nyaman selama berolahraga sehingga tubuh terasa lebih mampu menoleransi rasa lelah.

“Musik favorit membuat seseorang lebih termotivasi dan terdistraksi dari rasa capek. Jadi, tubuh sebenarnya bekerja keras, tetapi otak tidak terlalu fokus pada rasa lelahnya,” kata Felix.

Efek tersebut terutama muncul saat seseorang mendengarkan lagu yang memang disukai, bukan sekadar musik biasa. Ritme dan emosi dari lagu favorit disebut mampu memicu semangat sekaligus menjaga konsentrasi selama latihan.

“Kalau lagunya sesuai selera, biasanya muncul dorongan emosional yang bikin orang ingin terus bergerak. Itu yang membuat performa olahraga bisa meningkat,” ungkapnya.

Studi lain juga menemukan bahwa sinkronisasi gerakan tubuh dengan irama musik dapat meningkatkan motivasi, memperbaiki suasana hati, hingga menurunkan persepsi rasa capek selama olahraga.

Selain itu, penelitian di Scientific Reports pada atlet handball perempuan menunjukkan musik pilihan sendiri saat pemanasan juga mampu meningkatkan performa anaerobik secara signifikan.

Felix menilai temuan tersebut bisa menjadi cara sederhana bagi masyarakat untuk lebih konsisten berolahraga, terutama bagi mereka yang sering merasa cepat lelah atau bosan saat latihan.

Meski demikian, ia mengimbau mendengarkan musik saat olahraga tetap memperhatikan kondisi sekitar, terutama saat berlari atau bersepeda di jalan raya.

“Kalau olahraga di luar ruangan tetap harus waspada. Volume musik jangan terlalu keras supaya tetap bisa mendengar kondisi sekitar,” tutup Felix.
